Final Course Reflection
I am really grateful to have participated in this practicum experience. I'm glad we used The Standards-Based Administrative Internship book because it gave me a direction in how to best use my practicum hours and how I could help my school district. My biggest accomplishment was leading a team that created an induction and mentor plan. We created a huge document that will be used for the program and give direction to Mentors and Men-tees. Our school was asked to create this program as a result of their Advanced-Ed accreditation visit, so in a real sense we were helping to improve the future of our school district by creating a program that will guide new teacher to success.
I also participated in the creation of a Mathcounts program within our junior high school. This gives junior high students the opportunity to increase their math skills and compete against students from other schools. We had been seeing a gap in our junior high students math scores between junior high and high school, and know that this new program will help to bridge the gap and create excitement about math in the upper level math students in grades 6 to 8.
My whole goal during my practicum experience has been to help my district to become the best it can be, and even if it is in a small way, and know I have made an impact and helped with some critical things. I have received good feedback from my administrators and they are very grateful for my time and dedication. I have led assemblies, supervised students, created programs, researched programs, and helped out in many other small ways. I know that I will be a better administrator due to my time and experiences this past year. I look forward to the future but know that I am a leader now. I must continue to learn and grow, and find ways to get families and the community involved in our children's education.
